Lahore: Chairman Judicial Water Commission Justice (rtd) Ali Akbar Qureshi recently announced that the city’s water table level was continuing to drop by 3ft per year; with the current level having fallen below 800 hundred feet, according to a news source. As per the publication, Qureshi made these revelations during a meeting of the water commission, where he discussed the issues affecting the water table with the government officials concerned.

After the meeting, the chairman summoned the representatives of 240 factories and industries that either lacked water treatment plants or released toxic water underground. However, Mr Ali stated that only 175 representatives actually took part in the session.

Those factories which have not installed water treatment plants have been asked to submit an affidavit before January 24. If they fail to install the plants after the provided date then these factories will be sealed.

Additionally, the chairman took the opportunity to ask the common citizens to save water at their homes, and also announced that the Dolphin Force of the police would now be allowed to fine those residents that were caught wasting water.
