Lahore: The Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) has shared it working paper with the Lahore Development Authority (LDA)’s Governing Body to get an approval for increasing water connections issuance fee by 900%, a news source reported. The LDA Governing Body’s meeting is scheduled to take place on January 28.

As per the suggestions shared in the working paper, WASA is looking to increase fee from current PKR 50 to PKR 500 for the issuance of new water connection. Similarly, the authority has proposed to increase the fee to disconnect an existing connection from PKR 100 to PKR 300, while the charges to apply for re-connection are expected to be increased from PKR 150 to PKR 500.

In addition to the above-mentioned rise in fees, WASA has also proposed to increase fee for changing the name of connection holder from PKR 50 to PKR 500, while the recommended rise in fee for changing name of the commercial connection holders is PKR 1,000.

The working paper also requests the LDA Governing Body to increase water connection fee for restaurants and small industries from PKR 7,500 to PKR 10,000. While connection fee for commercial market and plazas is recommended to be increased from PKR 9,000 to PKR 20,000. Similarly, WASA proposed to increase connection fee for petrol pumps, workshops and restaurants spanning over 400 square yards.

WASA is looking to get an approval for the working paper in LDA’s upcoming Governing Body meeting; scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
