Lahore: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) will fund the construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam (DBD), Mohmand Dam, and Dasu Dam, a news source reported. Wapda will contribute PKR 271 billion to the construction of these dams.

Wapda Chairman (rtd) Lieutenant General Muzammil Hussain said that they had adopted a multifaceted strategy regarding the arrangement of funds for various projects. Their strategy was implemented well for Golen Gol, Tarbela 4th extension, and the Neelum-Jhelum hydropower projects. The Wapda Chairman mentioned that they had earned PKR 80 billion from the aforementioned projects and contributed it to the construction of DBD, Mohmand Dam, and Dasu Dam.

It is reported that from Wapda’s PKR 271 billion contributions, PKR 176 billion would go to DBD, PKR 66 billion to Dasu Dam, and PKR 29 billion to Mohmand hydropower project. Under the devised financial plan, a total of PKR 1,300 billion has been estimated for DBD, PKR 443 billion for the Dasu dam project, and PKR 309 billion for the Mohmand Hydropower project.

The Wapda chairman said that they had initiated a grand plan to build mega hydropower projects and fast-track them. He added, “It will help us to enhance the share of hydropower in the overall generation mix to keep the consumer-end-tariff within affordable limits, besides creating a buffer for water security of the country”.
