Tandlianwala: The Punjab government has set up an urban forest complex in Chak 558 GB Tandlianwala under the ‘Clean and Green Punjab’ programme, a news source reported. The forest is spread over an area of 300 acres, and about 300,000 plants of various types are being planted in the first phase with the help of civil society.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ali planted a sapling in the area and inaugurated the urban forest. Assistant Commissioner Tandlianwala Mohammad Aurangzeb Sindhu, officers, volunteers, and donors were all present on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner Ali said that about 1.5 million trees would be planted in the forest and appreciated the cooperation and support of the civil society. He added that the presence of volunteers and donors evinced the fact that people supported the government’s initiative to make the region clean and green.

He further stated that the tree plantation drive would be carried out through the district in the form of a movement in which citizens and officials of all departments would participate. He asked the residents of the area to support the national cause and guard the plants until they grow.
