Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) recently announced to conduct a third-party audit of all the private housing projects in the city approved in the last fifteen years, according to news sources. As per the publication, the civic agency has already formulated the regulations required to hire the services of private companies to perform this check.

The selected company is expected to review the use of existing land of approved residential schemes that fall under the jurisdiction of the RDA, after which the firm will be authorized to verify the land utilization compatibility by comparing them to the official plans. Furthermore, the auditing firm will also check the state of residential and commercial construction in order to verify that they conform with their original layouts.

The RDA has highlighted that the auditing firm is expected to be competent enough to carry out its duties well, and also verify whether land allocated for parks, community spaces, graveyards and green belts was being utilized for its original purpose. They will then be required to file a detailed report for review with the RDA’s Metropolitan and Traffic Engineering Directorate.

This decision was spurred by the orders of the consumer court, where city administrators were directed to register private housing schemes and conduct an audit in each one. Reportedly, Consumer Court Judge Abdul Hafeez had taken this decision in order to stop developers from advertising overpriced property listings.
