Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan was recently informed that the Swat Motorway would become fully operational by June, a news source reported. The chief minister presided over a meeting on Thursday about the proposed Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway and Swat Motorway Phase II.

The officials concerned told the meeting that the lining of the Mardan-bound main motorway had been completed and the installation of equipment was in progress. They added that diggings of four tunnels had also been completed, whereas the lining was still going on. The main alignment is expected to open by the end of the current fiscal year for all kinds of traffic, the officials added.

The officials told the meeting that Swat Motorway Extension-I (48km) and Extension-II (36km) from Chakdara to Fatehpur had been made part of the Public Sector Development Projects (PSDP) and the financial and commercial viability had been completed. Further, the details of the project, including its commercial documents and detailed design had been shared with the National Highway Authority (NHA).

They stated that Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway project had been also included in the PSDP and a consultant had been assigned the job of executing its design and commercial and financial feasibility. The final findings regarding feasibility and design would be shared with the relevant forum by June .
They added that PKR 480 million had been provided to the deputy commissioner for construction of the Police Lines Flyover in Swat District.
