Islamabad: Communication Minister Murrad Saeed announced that construction work Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project will start in two months, according to a news source. He further revealed that project will be developed under Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) where the department will get private companies on board.
The minister shared this information during a ceremony held to sign an MoU between National Highway Authority (NHA) and National Bank of Pakistan for planting 11,000 olive trees along Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway M-1. Addressing the ceremony, Saeed said that NHA is making motorways and highways in Pakistan more beautiful and greener under the Clean and Green Pakistan Initiative.
According to the memorandum, the NBP will provide NHA with 11,000 plant saplings free of cost for plantation along M-1 and other highways. The attendees were informed that NHA had already given 2.4 million saplings for various national highways.
Talking about his ministry, Saeed said that the government has a plan in place to make NHA a self-reliant institute, where it can construct roads without seeking funds from the federation. The Communication Minister appreciated the efforts of the NHA for increasing the department’s revenue. As per stats shared by Saeed, NHA’s current earning stands at PKR 35 billion.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam stated on the occasion that local researchers in Chakwal had developed an exceptional species of olives which is better than Italian olives, as their trees produce fruit once in three years.
