Rawalpindi: The Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi’s faculty of agriculture engineering recently organized a seminar titled ‘Digital technologies for managing agriculture and water resources’, according to a news report. The session was attended by some of the world’s top academics in the field, who emphasised on the need to use space-related technologies for efficient water management in the agriculture sector.

Numerous papers related to water management were presented at this conference. The university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Qamar Zaman stressed the need for better water management systems. He added that conventional technology was outdated in this digital era and that digital systems needed to be incorporated. He added that space-related technologies could enhance production, improve livelihoods, and increase food security.

Additionally, the director of Aratos System Netherlands, a private company, presented a report on the benefits and opportunities of these space-related technologies. These technologies include stratospheric remote sensing, high-altitude platforms, and satellite applications.
