Karachi: Sindh Minister for Human Settlements and Special Development Ghulam Murtaza Baloch has directed the relevant officials to identify land at a suitable location for the development of low-cost housing schemes – a news source reported.

The minister was presiding over a meeting of the Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority in his office on Thursday. The officials attending the meeting were also briefed on the number of katchi abadis in Sindh. There are a total of 1,429 katchi abadis in the province. Of these, 578 are in Karachi, 418 in Hyderabad, 87 in Mirpurkhas, 89 in Sukkur, 113 in Larkana, and 144 in Shaheed Benazirabad. These slums cover an area of nearly 26,458 acres in total.

He also instructed the officials to complete the ongoing developmental schemes on time and speed up the revenue recovery process. He urged them to make all possible efforts to increase funds for the annual development programme in order to improve the infrastructure in katchi abadis.
