Karachi: Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani on Monday directed the Sindh Building Control Authority (SCBA) to proceed with vacating the residents of all 382 buildings that have been declared insecure and perilous for the city’s citizens, according to news sources.

This decision was made in light of a Supreme Court order, with Shallwani warning that the officials concerned would be held responsible in case they failed to carry out the court’s orders.

SBCA Director for Unsafe Buildings Ashkar Dawer shared during the meeting that 303 buildings were located in the South District, 14 buildings in the East District, and 10 buildings in the Central District.

Director Dawer stated that notices had been dispatched to the owners of the buildings but they had been avoiding the implementation of the SBCA orders. The meeting considered halting the utility connections to the dangerous buildings and decided that authorities would ask the utility organization to implement the decision.

Deputy Commissioner South Irshad Ali, all additional directors of the SCBA, senior officials of the District Municipal Corporations (DMCs), the Cantonment Boards, and the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) also attended the meeting.

Korangi Additional Deputy Commissioner Arshad Waris informed the meeting that 45 illegal marriage halls had been established on residential plots. The meeting decided to take action and seal the marriage halls if they were found in violation of the laws.
