Rawalpindi: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) on Thursday approved of three new bus routes linking the city to Taxila and the Islamabad International Airport (IIA), according to a news source. As per the publication, the authority had previously called for applications from private transport companies to run air-conditioned buses on the said routes.

The IIA routes will start from Rawat via T-Chowk, Soan Camp, District Courts Chowk, The Mall, and from Koral Chowk on to Islamabad Highway. The route to Taxila will start from Rawat.
A representative from the district administration revealed that the contract had previously been awarded to a private company to launch a bus service between the IIA and the twin cities. However, due to certain issues regarding bus terminals and security concerns, the service has not materialised yet.

He also said that according to a proposal, the fares between Rawat and the IIA (35 KM) would be PKR 270 per passenger. The same rate would be applicable from Koral Chowk to the IIA (45 KM). RTA Secretary Khalid Yamin Satti stated that private transporters are being plied to run buses on these routes, and the fares would be fixed in consultation with all stakeholders once the details have been finalised.
