Muzaffarabad: The Cabinet Development Committee (CDC) of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) recently provided its approval to the development of 12 projects, including those concerned with the rehabilitation of roads, within the region, a news source reported. According to officials, these projects are expected to be completed at a cost of PKR 7 billion.

Among the approved projects, nine schemes pertain to the communication and works (C&W) department and one each belongs to the housing, physical planning, and hydropower generation sectors.

AJK Prime Minister (PM) Raja Farooq Haider presided over the CDC meeting; attended by the chief secretary, the additional secretary, cabinet members, and government officials.

The C&W sector projects included Afzalpur Bridge over Upper Jehlum Canal at a cost of PKR 110 million and the restoration of 14-kilometre long Bong-Chechian-Jatlan road at a cost of PKR 699.3 million.

PM Haider directed the authorities concerned to complete the tendering process for these two projects so that their construction work could begin before the end of the next month.

The other approved projects included the construction of 3.2 Megawatt Chamm Fall Hydropower Project, construction and blacktopping of 228-kilometre long roads in Neelum, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Mirpur, and Kotli districts, and water supply schemes in the towns of Garhi Dupatta, Chikar, and Chinariin.

The AJK premier further directed the authorities concerned to inquire thoroughly into the alleged inferior construction of District Headquarters (DHQ) in Bagh and accelerate the pace of work on Kahuta water supply scheme initiative.
