Lahore: The Punjab government has launched the ‘Qeemat Punjab’ application to control the profiteering and price hikes of essential items in the province, a news source reported. Citizens will be able to use the app for registering complaints regarding profiteering. This facility will further help monitor the quality of food items sold and send analysis to the relevant authorities.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has developed the app with an aim to deliver food items to user’s doorsteps public within a short span of time. During the first phase, the provincial executive has launched the app in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Multan. A large number of citizens have already used it and expressed satisfactory views.
In Lahore, the app’s services are currently available in five tehsils. These include Model Town, Lahore City, Shalimar, Lahore Cantt, and Raiwind. According to reports, the app has received a tremendous response from the public – with more than 600,000 downloads reported since its launch.
Meanwhile, the app has recorded 23,646 registered complaints on price hikes and related issues. Out of these, the authorities concerned have resolved 23,516 concerns.

An official revealed that the relevant deputy commissioners (DCs), the industries department, and PITB would handle and operate the app. He added that expanding the app’s services to other cities in Punjab was their priority. He said that in coming week, other cities – with Sialkot and Gujranwala on the top of the list – would start receiving the app’s services.
