Lahore: The Punjab government on Thursday launched a PKR 300 million loan scheme in a bid to revive the local cottage industry spread across 36 districts of the province, a news source reported. Provincial Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal inaugurated the project.

PSIC Managing Director (MD) Manzar Javed Ali, Additional Secretary Industries Ashar Zaidi and a number of senior officials and industrialists attended the ceremony. Speaking during the ceremony, Main Aslam said that the scheme would promote handicrafts and bring prosperity to artisans.

Under the initiative, the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) is expected to provide soft loans to skilled persons across the province.
The minister also inaugurated the mobile application Dastkaar; designed to make the provision of loans transparent and make the applicants aware of the payback procedure. The government has kept three months grace period for the return of loans for male applicants and four months for female applicants.
