Lahore: Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed revealed that the process to identify land for setting up low-cost housing units in rural areas – under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) – has been initiated, according to a news sources. He said that under NPHP, a total of 50 houses will be constructed in each village.

The minister revealed this information while presiding over a meeting held to discuss the progress on development works. University of Management and Technology (UMT) Housing Department Head Dr Fariha Tariq and other officials of the department attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting members, the minister said that under the first phase of the programme, pilot projects in all districts of Punjab have been initiated. The authorities concerned have started the process to identify suitable land, he added. Once this process completes, the Housing Department teams will visit the site in person and prepare a report on project’s feasibility.

Rasheed also mentioned that dialogues are underway with various firms on provision of ‘home loans’ on a convenient instalment plan. In this regard, the terms and conditions are being finalised, he said.
