Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has launched a low-cost apartment project under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme in Sector G-13, reported a news source. Under this initiative, the capital and its twin city Rawalpindi will have 25,000 apartment units constructed within them.

Speaking at the project’s launching ceremony, PM Khan said that the government would also give interest-free loans (distributed against a total amount of PKR 5 billion) to people looking to construct their houses. He also revealed that under NPHP, the government would build 6,000 flats and 100,000 apartments in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Balochistan.

The prime minister further said that under the first phase of NPHP, the government would construct 135,000 affordable residential units, and 25,000 residences specifically for government employees. In addition, 110,000 housing units would be constructed for fishermen hailing from Gwadar.

The prime minister also appreciated the hard work done by the Housing Department secretary and his team for the sake of the flagship NPHP project. He remarked that the construction of 5 million affordable houses was a ‘huge challenging’ endeavour, but the government was committed to delivering on it.
