Lahore: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Thursday announced the provincial government’s decision to spend PKR 8 billion for developmental schemes aimed at providing clean water to people across the province, a news source reported.

The governor made these remarks while presiding over a meeting of the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority (PAPA) along with Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar.

Governor Sarwar directed the officials concerned that maintenance and operation units would have to be developed in order to monitor the uninterrupted functioning of water supply projects; especially as clean water was a basic right for every citizen. He added that the best possible people had been selected to execute the project in an efficient manner.

CM Buzdar took the opportunity to state that the previous governments had ignored this vital issue regarding the provision of clean water; however the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was committed to solving the water problem. He further informed the participants of the meeting that all commissioners and deputy commissioners in the province would also be taking a leading role in executing the clean water supply project.
