Islamabad: The Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) on Monday asked the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to provide two sectors in the federal capital for the installation of water filtration plants — with the initiative aimed at providing clean drinking water to the city’s citizens, a news source reported.

PCRWR Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashraf stated that the decision to set up the water filtration plants was taken in order to save the citizens from drinking unsafe and contaminated water. The filtration plant facility can be provided to the rest of the sectors of the capital once the first phase of the initiative proves to be successful.

PCRWR has the authority to check the quality of drinking water and recommend measures to make clean drinking water available to the city’s residents.

Chairman Ashraf said that although the provision of clean drinking water was shifted to provinces after the 18th amendment, PCRWR can recommend initiatives and remedies to make clean drinking water possible for the people.
