Islamabad: Sazgar Engineering Works, a local three-wheeler assembler, on Saturday debuted the country’s first electric rickshaw in Lahore during a special ceremony, a news source reported.

Adviser to the PM on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam and several other officials attended the ceremony; organised by the Climate Change Ministry. Speaking on the occasion, Malik Amin Aslam said that the electric vehicles (EVs) would consume 70 % less energy compared to the vehicles run on fuel.

Sazgar Engineering Director Mian Ammar informed the audience that the rickshaw would not produce harmful emissions and would not incur fuel and maintenance costs. According to reports, the EcoRik Li-Ion battery of Sazgar concerned comes with a capacity of 48V, 125Ah, and 6Kwh. The battery will take five hours to charge and would travel a distance of up to 125 kilometres in an hour.
