Lahore: University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA Professor Dr James Schauer, during a tour of the city, stressed that Lahore required a comprehensive air quality management system to check its increasing levels of smog — a news source reported.

He said that when it comes to air pollution control, the focus is usually on utilizing technological interventions to resolve the issue. However, he said that not enough attention was paid to the social interventions that could also be an effective tool in the fight against pollution.
During his tour, Dr Schauer met policymakers, government representatives, students and many other locals to exchange ideas on air pollution and to find common grounds to counter the menace in Pakistan.

He stated that the state needed to educate the public about their role in the fight against pollution. He believed that should know the impact of burning waste at home, and how the burning of crops can pollute the environment.
He added that the people of Lahore should focus more on social interventions as well as technological interventions in order to achieve a cleaner air regime.
