Lahore: Punjab Minister for Housing & Urban Development Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed recently emphasised the need to develop new cities in the province, a news source reported. He further stated that this undertaking would resolve traffic issues and reduce the population burden of existing big cities.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting held to review the pre-feasibility report with regard to the establishment of new cities in Lilla, Sukheki, Pindi, Bhattian, and near Gujrat.

Housing Secretary Nadeem Mehboob, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz, Punjab Housing & Town Planning Agency (PHATA) Director General Nadeem Sarwar, Urban Unit Chief Operating Officer (COO) Abid Hussaini, senior specialist Khurram Afzal, Punjab Housing Task Force Chairman Yaqoob Azhar, General Secretary Muhammad Atif, and other officials concerned were all present at the occasion.

The minister directed the Urban Unit to examine the possibilities of developing a new city near Nankana Sahib. He said that the provincial government was committed to developing new cities in Punjab in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.
