Mingora: Civil society members have requested the district government to protect the saplings planted along the stream which cuts through Mingora, a news source reported. To this effect, they have sought the formation of a proper conservation plan from the authorities concerned.

During a meeting held on Wednesday for tree plantation campaign in the district, they said that lower Swat urgently required wide-scale plantation due to alarming environmental degradation. A large number of civil society members attended the meeting.

The attendees stated that lower Swat and Mingora Bazaar had become dirtiest places of the district. The members added that these localities were full of garbage, dirt, and smoke; making people feel suffocated.

On the other hand, the participants lauded the incumbent government for planting trees along the streams in Mingora. They asked the district administration and the forest department to plant saplings along streams in other areas as well. However, they added that a proper plan was required to protect these saplings so they could grow. They said that animals were destroying the saplings planted during the previous campaign.
The meeting members proposed that the district administration should deploy guards of the forest department or policemen for the saplings’ protection.
