The PHA also plans to begin e-tagging trees during the next phase of this project. The aim of this measure is to protect the trees once their specific locations have been determined.
Initially, the PHA started the drive by counting the trees in Race Course Park, Gulberg, Allama Iqbal Town, Gulshan-e- Ravi and Jinnah Bagh, as well as the trees planted along the canal banks and in other areas of the city. In addition, the authority also declared the trees along The Mall as part of the city’s heritage in order to ensure their protection.
PHA officials stated that they had received reports of tree thefts and that by e-tagging and assigning unique numbers to each tree, the authority hoped to prevent any further tree damage and wood theft.

Meanwhile, PHA Spokesperson Nadia Tufail stated that the completion of the e-tagging process would enable the authority to easily verify the trees planted across the city. She added that it would also help in determining how many more trees were required to be planted in various localities in Lahore.
