Karachi: The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has finalised several locations in the city for developing three low-cost housing schemes, a news source reported. To this effect, the civic body has stated that it will launch the initiatives in a phased manner – with Surjani Town set to host the first project, followed by additional developments in Korangi and Federal B Area.

KDA Director General (DG) Saifur Rehman said that the process of setting up the housing projects required comprehensive planning. Appreciating KDA’s track record for providing quality housing schemes in Karachi, he opined that a proper and inclusive working plan was necessary for launching any housing project in the city.

The KDA DG also chaired a meeting with the authority’s executive board pertaining to the proposed public housing societies. During the meeting, officials concerned finalised the following points:
- The schemes will specifically accommodate middle and lower-middle classes
- The new schemes will only feature residential flats, offices, and shops
- Surjani Town will be the first to have a low-cost housing project
- KDA will set up similar societies in Korangi and Federal B Area during the next phase
- The authority will ensure transparency of the computerised ballot for flats, offices, and shops

Rehman further directed the KDA marketing director to prepare the feasibility report for the three projects, and submit it to executive board for obtaining the governing body’s final approval.
