Islamabad: The government has announced its decision to construct four new interchanges on the Kashmir Highway in its effort to transform the road into a signal-free route, a news source reported. To facilitate this measure, the executive has decided to add the construction of the interchanges to the next Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

The decision came during a meeting chaired by Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar. The participants stated that the next PSDP would include the construction of the proposed interchanges on the intersections of 7th, 10th, 11th, and 12th avenues with the Kashmir Highway.

Officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Planning Wing revealed that there is a total of nine interchanges planned for Kashmir Highway to make it completely signal free. The interchanges span from the Serena Hotel intersection to Golra Morr. Construction of three of these interchanges has already reached completion, they added.

On the other hand, city managers have also proposed the construction of an interchange on the intersection of the 9th Avenue and IJP Road – also called double road signal. In response, Umar directed the CDA to initiate the project with its own resources. The CDA chairman expressed his agreement and directed the Planning Wing to begin designing the project.
