Karachi: The city administration is expected to introduce a mobile application through which users would be able to purchase fruits and vegetables at subsidised rates, a news source reported. To this effect, Karachi Commissioner Ifthikhar Shallwani has stated that the initiative is similar to the ‘Darust Dam’ app already introduced in Islamabad.

The commissioner stated that the residents of Karachi would receive the app in February. He added that the authorities concerned were working to transform the city into a metropolis of international standards. He said that the city recently hosted various sporting events, which have also attracted tourists. He remarked that making Karachi pedestrian-friendly was necessary for accommodating the tourists.
Shallwani stated that the provincial government needed everyone’s assistance for managing the city traffic, and constructing footpaths and pedestrian bridges. He added that there are plans for building a pedestrian bridge on II Chundrigar Road.
The commissioner said that he met with owners of various schools in a bid finalise the design for a one-way traffic plan for the schools. He added that this measure would help prevent gridlocks caused by vehicular movement.

He opined that Karachi biggest issues at the moment included water supply, solid waste management, and transport. He added that the provincial government was working to resolve these problems.
