Mansehra: Senator General (rtd) Salahuddin Tirmizi recently announced that the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) would be setting up Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plants in Kaghan Valley, Mahandri, Ghanool, and Balakot to provide LPG to the households located in these areas, a news source reported.

Senator Tirmizi, who is a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum, stated that LPG plants would protect the forest cover in these areas against large scale deforestation and that other LPG plants had been working quite successfully in the far-off parts of Balochistan.

He added that mix gas plants had been proposed in order to reduce deforestation and to provide an alternative fuel supply to households in Kaghan valley.

The senator further revealed that Managing Director SNGPL Amir Tufail would be sending teams to Kaghan Valley to scout out for appropriate places where mix gas plants could be set up to supply gas to the local residents.

He also reiterated that the reason these measures were being taken was to preserve the scenic beauty of Kaghan Valley that would be destroyed if deforestation remained unchecked.
