Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to turn the 5-lane ‘Signal Free Islamabad Expressway’ into a public-private-partnership (PPP) project, according to a news source. If this step is followed through, the civic agency will be able to finish the development work on two major project sections – the PWD Underpass and the Korang Nullah Bridge’s expansion work.

The civic agency had forwarded a request to the Planning Commission five months ago, to grant permission to complete the Korang Nullah bridge-onward to T-Chowk on GT Road section of the project with its own resources. However, its request hasn’t yet been approved.

The delay in the project and the indecisiveness between the CDA and the government regarding this project has been causing commuting troubles for travellers on a daily basis for years.
The major section of the project has already been completed up to Korang Nullah bridge – including four new flyovers at Garden Avenue, Sohan, Khanna and the Koral Chowk and was opened for traffic in February 2017.
