Islamabad: Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat recently announced the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration’s decision to introduce an e-stamping system in the authority’s revenue department to make the process of stamp duty collections more efficient — a news source reported. As per the publication, the government authority plans on implementing the new system in the federal capital from April 2020 onward.

Explaining the system further, the DC stated that it would follow the digitized systems being used in Punjab where the entire registry of the revenue department was stored in a digital format. In Islamabad, the system will also be linked to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA)’s database.
Shafqaat noted that previously the established practice for transferring ownership of property in the registry had been for both parties involved in the deal to be photographed, and to submit signed affidavits.

However, he said that, even with the new system, they have found certain loopholes. In order to fix these issues, the DC revealed that closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras had been installed in all the revenue offices in the city. He added that the activities of the patwari office would also be monitored carefully through a mobile application.
