Hyderabad: The Commissioner of Hyderabad Abbas Baloch recently ordered the departments concerned to focus on conservation and restoration efforts on archaeological and heritage sites in the region, according to a news source.

He ordered that the damage, alteration, encroachment, and demolition of these sites must be halted. The sites under question are Pakka Qila, Market Tower, Ganga Ram Building, Basant Hall, Mukhee House, Sindh University Old Campus, Sindh Government Law College, Thora Charhi Girls School, Neval Rai High School, Jamia Arabia High School, KP Azeem Khan Building, and the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Building.

Baloch stated that restoring these buildings would beautify Hyderabad and attract tourists. He added that such historic buildings are an integral part of a nation’s identity, hence, their maintenance and upkeep must be prioritised as a national duty and responsibility. He also instructed officials to remove all banners surrounding these structures and to notify private owners about the rules prohibiting the alteration and demolition of historic sites.
