Karachi: The federal government has sought Zameen.com’s assistance in a bid to regularise the national real estate industry, according to a news report. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs expressed his views on the matter during a media briefing held following the inauguration of Zameen Expo 2020 – Karachi on Saturday.

He stated that the regularisation of the property sector was the need of the hour. Zameen.com, being the leading real estate portal, can help regularise the local property marketplace, he added. He further stated that constructions built in violation of building bylaws could prove to be dangerous for the inhabitants.

Commenting on the illegally developed settlements on the Karachi Port Trust (KPT)’s land, the minister stated that people residing in the area have been lacking basic facilities for the past 40 years. Zaidi told media that his ministry would finalise the plans to improve the lifestyle experience of slum dwellers. The plans will be revealed in March and April, he said.
He also stated that several local and international experts and consultants were voluntarily helping the ministry in its development of rehabilitation plans. The minister lamented that Karachi could not be developed as a port city in the true sense of the word. He said that Zameen Expo 2020 would help boost economic activity in Karachi.
