Lahore: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar on Thursday announced that the mass weddings of orphans and destitute couples would be organized at his official residence on a recurring basis; with the first ceremony expected to be held in February — according to news sources.

He made this announcement while chairing a meeting of government officials. He added that the mass weddings would be funded by philanthropists and the Governor’s house will act as a venue for this great cause. The governor said that 10% of the ceremonies will include minority couples and that orphan and needy couples from across the province would be wedded at these ceremonies.

Governor Sarwar said that this decision was another attempt to realise Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of opening the Governor’s House to the common man. He said that such events will be a permanent fixture on the Governor’s House calendar, with financial support from the country’s social philanthropists.
