Islamabad: The government has disbursed PKR 2.8 billion for acquiring the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M6) project land, a news source reported. The said project is a section of the Karachi-Lahore Motorway.

The executive authorised the release of the funds under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2019-20. It had allocated funds worth PKR 3.5 billion for the project during the ongoing fiscal year. The latest data of the Planning Commission indicated that the total cost for the land acquisition of the Sukkur-Hyderabad section amounted to PKR 51 billion. Out of this amount, the authorities concerned have spent PKR 29.4 billion up till June 30, 2019.
The Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative, and the relevant departments aim to build it under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
Starting at Sukkur, the motorway section will have stops at Khairpur, Nowshehro Feroze, Nawab Shah, Mitiari, Hala, and Jamshoro. The section will be 296 kilometres long; terminating at Hyderabad. The total cost of the entire project amounts to an estimated PKR 204-38 billion, and the government expects to complete within a time period of 33 months.

Following its completion, the commuters from Peshawar and Lahore would be able to access controlled motorway link to Karachi. Whereas, the Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway is already operational.
