Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday approved of the construction of the Malir Expressway, with the project estimated to cost PKR 39 billion — a news source reported.

CM Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over the 30th meeting of the Public-Private Partnership Policy Board and decided to give the contract for the construction of the expressway to a consortium.

The meeting was informed that although three companies had filed their bids for the Malir Expressway project, the project had been awarded to a consortium of four companies, given their lowest bid for the project.

The Malir Expressway is expected to be 38.75 kilometres long and will constructed parallel to the Malir River. It will be a three-into-three-lane expressway, ‘starting from the Korangi Creek Avenue and ending at the M-9 Karachi-Hyderabad motorway near Kathore’.

The Sindh CM said that the Malir Expressway would facilitate commuters from the Korangi Industrial Area, Karachi Port, Landhi Industrial Area, Steel Mills, Super Highway and the National Highway.

The policy board decided to construct an Expressway from Mauripur Road to the Hawks Bay Y junction and an alternate link road for the residents of Korangi Creek, PAF Airmen Academy, and the nearby industrial zones and educational institutions.

Further, the board decided that under the Private-Public Partnership model, two roads will be constructed from Khyber to Sanghar Road and Tando Mohammad Khan to Badin Road.

The policy board additionally directed the Public-Private Partnership Unit to execute a feasibility report for turning Haleji Lake, Keenjhar Lake, and Gorakh Hill Station into tourism destinations with international standard amenities.
