Lahore: The Metropolitan Corporation has decided to initiate a project for redesigning the Shimla Pahari Chowk — with the venture expected to cost PKR 48.7 million, a news source reported. As per the publication, this decision was made in order to ensure improved traffic management; following reports that the increases in traffic flow were causing jams at Mall Road and five other thoroughfares in the area.

The Metropolitan Corporation will be allocating the funds for this project and has planned the the restructuring of the chowk with the help of the Traffic Engineering & Planning Agency (TEPA). The Commissioner Lahore will have final approval om the project design and execution, with Chief Corporation Officer Said Ali Abbas Bukhari directed to redesign the Shimla Pahari Chowk.

After the redesign has been completed, the traffic coming from Club Chowk, Davis Road, Sundardass road, and Durand Road will be able to move to Egerton road, while the way from Davis Road through Egerton Road to Empress Road will be closed. Apart from other modifications, the cabins of safe city cameras, traffic signals, sign boards, trees and electric pool points will also be changed.

Chief Corporation Officer Said Ali Abbas Bukhari stated that the redesigning process is expected to be completed in two months.
