Karachi: According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), foreign investors repatriated USD 836.3 million on account of profit and dividend in the first half (July-Dec) of the current fiscal year (FY2019-20), a news source reported.

The repatriated amount has risen 10 percent as compared to the first half of the last fiscal year (FY19). Back then, the repatriated amount of profit and dividend was USD 759.5 million, which is USD 76.3 million less than the present amount.

During the period between July and December, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) recorded major outflow of profit and in total 87 percent of the repatriated amount was sent as returns on FDI. However, repatriation on account of portfolio investment decreased by 29 percent in the first half of the current fiscal year.

Foreign investors sent USD 93 million abroad as return on portfolio investment during the first half of the current fiscal year, as opposed to USD 130.7 million in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

FDI registered that USD 264 million was repatriated from the manufacturing sector, which makes it the major portion of total repatriation in the first half of the current fiscal year. Oil and gas generated $ 119 million in total.
