Karachi: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday inaugurated the first phase of the ‘Karachi Urban Forest’ initiative, a news source reported. This compound is expected to be developed near the Lyari Expressway – situated along the Malir and Lyari rivers.

Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah, provincial ministers Murtaza Wahab and Nasir Hussain Shah, along with other senior government officials, were all present at the inaugural ceremony.

According to officials, about 10,000 saplings of Sheesham, Neem, Sumbal, Babul, and Chikoo (Sapodilla plum) will be planted on the margins of the Lyari River during the project’s first phase. The second phase of the forest is expected to commence with the plantation drive along the Malir River.

Minister for Local Government and Forests Nasir Shah stated that the provincial executive would ensure the plantation of eco-friendly trees in the urban forest compound.
