Faisalabad: Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Director General (DG) Sohail Khawaja on Monday briefed parliamentarians on the recent action taken against illegal housing societies in the city, a news source reported. As per the publication, the development authority shut down 25 illegal housing societies over the last two months.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister (CM) Malik Umar Farooq, members of provincial assembly (MPAs) Latif Nazar, Adil Pervez Gujjar, Mian Khayal, Shakil Shahid, Mian Waris Aziz and other senior officials also attended the meeting.

The FDA DG informed the meeting that the purchase and sale of plots in the closed housing schemes had also been forbidden. He further informed that 34 First Informations Reports (FIRs) had also been registered against the owners, while 12 challans were issued against the defaulters and 182 notices sent to the developers who violated building laws.

DG Khwaja stated that PKR 35.41 million had been recovered from the developers involved in illegal town planning and the recovery campaigns had been augmented to meet the target. He further briefed the meeting about the standards of developing housing schemes and confirmed that all housing societies of 100-kanal or above were now required to get preliminary permission, along with having their layout plans approved before the scheme could be officially ratified by the development authority.
