Gujranwala: The Punjab Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department has communicated its intent to set up farms on the lands retrieved from illegal occupation — with the department having already identified up to 7,000 acres in Gujranwala and five other cities of the province for the purpose, a news source reported.

The land in Gujranwala District will be used for agricultural farming. Reportedly, the Punjab government has contact several local and international firms to find an investor. The concerned officials will also seek guidance on corporate farming from the Ministry of National Food Security & Research.

As per the sources within the Auqaf Department, approximately 30,000 kanals of the department’s land is suitable for farming. This land is located in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Sheikhupra, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha and Kasur.
