During the ceremony, over a thousand saplings of citrus fruit trees were planted on a 25-kanal piece of parkland. In addition, a target has been set to plant over 100,000 trees at the available sites of the aforementioned housing scheme and other residential projects in Faisalabad.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali lauded the FDA progress in this regard, and said that the establishment of fruit parks in large housing schemes would not only help transform the environment, but also provide edible fruits for society’s consumption. He added that the Clean & Green Pakistan Index initiative had been launched to protect the environment by encouraging the community to adopt an environmentally sustainable lifestyle.

The DC said that this initiative would help rank 19 cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) based on their green character and cleanliness. This ranking is expected to encourage a healthy competition between the cities, so that each may improve environmental sustainability and infrastructure in the country as a whole. Additionally, the DC revealed that 300 acres of land had been identified by the district administration to grow urban forests.
DG FDA Sohail Khawaja further briefed the ceremony attendees about the authority’s decisions to set-up urban forests on 12 acres of land in FDA City, as well as the choice to sow over 10,000 saplings of indigenous plant species in the area.
