Islamabad: Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) Chairman Mian Kashif Ashfaq on Saturday announced the authority’s decision to build a ‘furniture city’ on 200 acres of land reserved for the purpose in the Allama Iqbal Industrial City, a news source reported.

He said that the government would utilise the potential of classical furniture industry in the country to enhance Pakistan’s exports. The city would provide small and medium furniture manufacturers with various opportunities to compete at the international level, he added.

Ashfaq stated that the FIEDMC would train students and artisans in furniture-crafting gig by employing the latest technologies, in addition to setting up a Centre for Excellence for the same purpose.

FIEDMC would offer them the facility of one window operation, as well as provide them with a complete business structure. Further, the furniture producers would be encouraged to attend exhibitions and trade shows.
