Lahore: The Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department Punjab recently announced its intentions to make its tax exemption system available online, a news source reported. In this regard, the department will launch an online system to facilitate senior citizens, widows, retired employees, differently abled individuals, and other citizens eligible for a tax exemption.

Director Excise & Taxation Shakeel ur Rehman stated that under the Punjab Urban Immovable Property Tax Act 1958, the government is expected to provide annual tax exemption to widows, minor orphans, government officers, differently abled individuals, and divorced women. However, these individuals have to visit the excise offices in the province to apply for the tax exemption every year, which was an undue hassle for many of them.

Rehman said that with the introduction of the new online system, individuals eligible for a tax exemption would be able to file their applications with ease, instead of physically visiting the excise offices. He added that the service would be quite similar to the one that their official website provides for filing online property tax returns.
