For this purpose, the WASA Recovery Unit has formed 16 teams tasked with severing both the residential and commercial water and sewerage connections of defaulters on a daily basis. These teams have been directed to focus on company clients who haven’t cleared their bills in the past several months. Furthermore, they are required to forward the cases of habitual defaulters to the special judicial magistrate for further proceedings.

During the first phase of the crackdown, the WASA teams severed water and sewerage connections of 84 defaulters in various parts of the city.
In the mean time, WASA has also introduced a scheme to help people regularize their illegal water and sewerage connections by paying the regular fees instead of the previously implemented higher penalty charges. The provision, however, can only be availed by individuals who submit their applications latest by February-end.
