Quetta: The construction work on 19 dams is in progress in 16 districts of the province — with the initiative expected to cost an estimated PKR 5 billion, a news source reported. As per the publication, Project Director ‘100 Dams Balochistan’ Shoaib Ahmed Tareen revealed that the authorities concerned expected to complete the venture soon.

The project director stated that the venture had been facing some delays due to a lack of funds from the federal government. However, he added, they were optimistic about completing the construction work in this regard soon. He further said that initially, the original plan had been to construct 24 dams in the province with the help of federal funds.

Tareen stated that designs of 5 dams out 24 dams were sent back for remodification. On the other hand, he added, the relevant departments were currently busy with the construction work on 19 dams in 16 districts of Balochistan.

The project director assured that the construction work on these dams would be expedited once they received the requisite funds from the federal government. He added that the Qilla Abdullah area would also have 300 small dams and that their construction would help raise the water levels in the district.
