Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced its decision to float an international tender in its bid to hire a consultant firm, which will be tasked with conducting a feasibility study for the Ghazi Barotha water project, according to news sources.

To facilitate this measure, the project management unit of the CDA will publish an advertisement in the national and international newspapers to invite consultants. As per reports, the government wants to execute this project on a priority basis; given the current shortage of water supply in the city.
Ghazi Barotha project envisions a 45-kilometre pipeline that will fetch water form Indus River to the twin cities. It is expected to provide 100 million gallons of water per day to the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The project was originally proposed in 2006 with an estimated budget of PKR 37 billion. However, the experts said that the project budget could rise up to PKR 100 billion. CDA is exploring various financial models to fund this project that can make a real impact on water provision problem of the two cities.
