Lahore: Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar on Thursday directed the departments concerned to prepare a Master Plan to efficiently manage the flow of traffic in the city, according to news sources. As per the publication, the minister made this request while presiding over a performance review meeting for the province’s housing sector.

The CM stated that the city was facing traffic woes, owing to the increased population and ever-increasing number of vehicles on the roads. He called for immediate steps to be implemented to improve this situation and protect the citizens from frustration caused by growing traffic jams.
He instructed for Ferozpur Road, Jail Road, Mall Road and Canal Road to be turned into models of effective traffic management. The meeting also reviewed a proposal to develop new parking plazas in the provincial capital and directed for recommendations of the traffic engineering study to be implemented for ensuring smooth traffic flow in the congested areas of Lahore.

The CM Punjab also mentioned the names of the prominent roads in the city where he felt the traffic conditions were getting worse with time and needed immediate rectification. These locations included Bhatti Chowk (Data Darbar), Garhi Shahu Chowk, Shimla Pahari Chowk, Allah Hu Chowk, Workshop Chowk on the Outfall Road, Akbar Chowk on Maulana Shoukat Ali Road, Hussain Chowk on Noor Jehan Road, Regal Chowk at Mall Road, and Babo Sabo Interchange Chowk.
While on the subject of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), CM Buzdar said that there were vast investment opportunities in the housing sector. He also called on the privatisation entities to contribute to the housing sector, so that they may be able to benefit from it.
