Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar recently announced the provincial government’s decision to provide an 80-percent subsidy for the promotion of fish farming in the province, a news source reported. As per the publication, the CM also approved the establishment of a saline water aquaculture research centre in Muzaffargarh.
CM Buzdar presided over a meeting that reviewed various development projects of the Wildlife and Fisheries Department. Minister for Forest, Wildlife and Fisheries Asad Khokhar, Secretary Forests, Wildlife & Fisheries, Secretary Finance, and other officials concerned attended the meeting as well.
The meeting decided in principle to develop the cage fish culture cluster development programme for the upgradation of fisheries. CM Buzdar told the meeting that five thousand cages would be fitted for fisheries at various barrages including Taunsa, Chashma, and Head Panjnad.
He informed the meeting that 750 farmers would be given capacity building training and a hatchery project would be launched in Fazilpur. He added that three fish farms were being developed in Jampur, Gujja, and Darama, and that a Tilapia fish farm was also being built in Muzaffargarh.
