If there’s one thing Karachi is famous for, it’s shopping. Yes, you read it right. The largest city of Pakistan is the city of shopaholics. From traditional-style shopping centres and markets like the ones located on Tariq Road to high-end retail destinations available in Zamzama Commercial, Karachi offers a very colourful variety of shopping hubs that are famous across the nation.
Along with these well-established commercial districts, the City of Lights has also hosted temporary markets and weekly bazaars throughout its history. They are still organized in many different parts of the city and are frequented by a large number of local shoppers. From household items and electronics to toys and clothing accessories, these weekly bazaars in Karachi offer one-stop shopping solutions.
In this blog, we have rounded up some of the most popular weekly markets in the city, detailing their locations and timings and the list of products available in them.
Most Popular Weekly Bazaars in Karachi
You can visit different weekly bazaars in the megacity on different days of the week. Take a look at the listicle below for more information!
Sunday and Wednesday Bazaar (aka Aladin Bazaar)
The weekly bazaar near Aladin Amusement Park opens twice a week: Sundays and Wednesdays. It is one of the largest and oldest weekly markets in Karachi. Its venue is located on the main Rashid Minhas Road in the locality of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
This weekly bazaar is organised on a very large scale, based on the participation of thousands of local vendors. For the convenience of visitors, the bazaar has proper parking arrangements for both cars and bikes. Since it is organised in a highly populated vicinity, you can also easily find different modes of public transportation nearby.
Food Court: While exploring the fascinating marketplace, don’t forget to visit its food court. There you’ll find a variety of food items and beverages available at different types of food stalls, kiosks and temporary restaurants with seating arrangements under shaded spots.
Available Products: Household and grocery items, fruits and vegetables, fashion accessories, clothing items, electronics and mobile accessories.
Location: Main Rashid Minhas Road, Near Aladin Amusement Park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal
Timings: 11 am till 7 pm (Sunday and Wednesday)
Clifton Weekend Bachat Bazaar (Defence’s Old Sunday Bazaar Revamped)
It is another very popular and relatively new weekly bazaar in Karachi. Since it is named “Weekend Bachat Bazaar”, it is also organised twice a week, but on weekends: Saturdays and Sundays.
It would remind you of the Defence’s old Sunday Bazaar, which was organised in the area of DHA Phase 8 several years back. However, they stopped organising it due to some land issues and noise pollution complaints from the residents of the area.
On the other hand, this newly opened Weekend Bachat Bazaar is strategically organised in an almost remote location in the neighbourhood of Clifton. Despite its distance from other areas, Weekend Bachat Bazaar enjoys seamless connectivity, thanks in part to the fact that it is directly linked to the main Sea View Road.
You’d have to buy a parking ticket to enter this bazaar from the main entrance. There is a large open space, which is designated for vehicle parking, just a few steps away from the main market. You can explore a wide range of open shops, stalls and kiosks set up by the local vendors.
Food Court: This bazaar also has a small-scale food court with a few shops offering bun kabab, biryani and a limited range of refreshing beverages.
Available Products: Household items, fruits and vegetables, home decor pieces, fashion accessories, cosmetics, clothing items, electronics and mobile accessories.
Location: Main Sea View Road, Clifton Block 2, Near Marine Promenade Chowrangi
On a side note, Karachi’s very famous coastal attraction, China Port, is also located in proximity to the Clifton Weekend Bachat Bazaar.
Timings: 11 am till 7 pm (Saturday and Sunday)
Sunday Used Car Bazaar
Where do you look for used cars in Karachi? You may be thinking about OLX.com.pk and other similar online platforms. But, what if we told you that there is actually a place where you can go and take a look at a huge variety of used cars in person? Yes, we are talking about Karachi’s infamous Sunday Car Bazaar.
From Toyota to Honda and Suzuki, you’ll find all types of cars here falling into different categories and budgets. It is quite evident from the name of this temporary marketplace that it is only organised on Sundays. However, there’s not much you can do upon your visit to this weekly car market in Karachi other than exploring the cars on display.
Also, it is important to note here that it is actually a male-centric marketplace, which is unlike other household weekly bazaars in the city that women and families can comfortably visit and explore.
Location: 2 No. Cricket Ground, Ghous Pak Road, Sector 11-D, North Karachi
Available Products: New and used cars of different models and makes
