Any bedroom is incomplete without a dresser. Available in different shapes and sizes, this piece of furniture not only serves all your organisational needs but also adds to the appeal of your décor. It is also known by a variety of names. For instance, chest of drawers and vanities are both considered types of dressers for bedrooms, as they all serve more or less the same function.
What is a Dresser?
Dressers may be widely overlooked as a utilitarian item used to store clothes and other belongings, but they are far more important than that. A well-designed and well-maintained dresser can serve as the main focal point of your bedroom. You can also install a mirror right above it to use it as a conventional dressing table.
Before we discuss different types of dressers for bedrooms, let’s quickly clarify one of the biggest misconceptions about them.
A lot of people believe a dresser and chest of drawers are two completely different things.
That’s not true.
Both of these furniture items have multiple drawers and essentially serve the same function: store clothing and other belongings. The only difference between them is their design. Traditionally, bedroom dressers are usually wide and waist-high, whereas chests of drawers are more narrow and taller. However, the distinction between them is getting quite blurry, thanks to the innovations in furniture styles.

Types of Dressers for Bedroom
Dressers are usually described by their height, shape, design, and storage capacity. For example, horizontal dressers, and double dressers. The tallboy and lowboy dressers, on the other hand, can also be considered as chests of drawers.
Here are some of the most popular and evergreen dresser designs for bedrooms in Pakistan.
Horizontal Dressers
A horizontal dresser is probably the most common type of bedroom furniture found in homes across Pakistan.
As the name suggests, these bedroom dressers are horizontally oriented and comprise a single column of wide drawers. Usually, these types of dressers for bedrooms have two to three rows of wide drawers with a top row of relatively smaller drawers, which are perfect to store jewellery and other small items. The bottom drawers can be used to keep clothes, books and other bigger items.
Horizontal dressers also have enough tabletop space to display a TV, a row of books, a table lamp and other decorative items. It is considered one of the standard dresser designs for bedrooms.
Double Dressers
If you want a dresser with a mirror in your bedroom, this would be a perfect choice.
Like most types of antique dressers, double dressers comprise two columns of wide drawers. They are much more spacious than the horizontal or standard dressers, allowing homeowners to store multiple items at the same time. Since double dressers are relatively longer, they also offer additional tabletop space. They are usually paired with a giant mirror to serve the function of vanity as well as a storage unit.
However, you must measure the available space in your room before buying one of these bedroom dressers as they take up a lot of space and can appear rather overwhelming. Though if you have enough space, you can even consider getting a triple dresser, which is a waist-high piece of bedroom furniture with three columns and multiple rows of spacious drawers.
The choice of buying triple dresser vs double dresser depends solely on your preference, space and budget.
Combo Dressers
Those looking for modern dresser designs ideas that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing can take a look at combo dressers. They appear a lot like horizontal bedroom dressers, with the only difference being the addition of cabinets attached to either side of the furniture or in the centre.
Combo dressers typically have one or two columns of drawers with an equal number of cabinets with multiple shelves. Some dressers are tall enough to hang clothes inside, making them extremely functional. They also have a bigger tabletop space, which can be utilized to place your TV, photo frames, rows of books, and other decorative items.
Tallboy Dressers
The classic tallboy dressers consist of two main pieces: a wider base of a chest of drawers supporting a smaller upper chest of drawers. Other tallboy dresser design ideas may include an armoire, cabinets or they may only comprise several rows of drawers.
Tallboy dressers are also called vertical chests of drawers, as they are narrow and tall. However, compared to most types of dressers for bedrooms, these are not as spacious. However, they are extremely elegant and can be used as centrepieces for any room.
Lowboy Dressers
Lowboy dressers are also known as bachelor’s chest of drawers. These are low-profile and narrow chests with about three to four drawers in a single column. At first glance, these types of dressers for bedrooms may appear just like old school desks. However, they are spacious enough for a single person to store their socks, caps, watches, jewellery, toiletries and other smaller belongings. You can also attach a small mirror on the wall right above these lightweight bedroom dressers so they can also serve as a dressing table along with a small storage unit.
Despite being rather small, types of dressers for bedrooms are aesthetically pleasing and can add a touch of elegance to your bedroom décor. They are also an ideal option for small spaces and can even double as a nightstand if needed.
It is important to point out that modern dresser design ideas tend to incorporate features from different types of furniture items, making them unique and distinct. The high-end designer dressers widely available in the market feature many different elements that increase their functionality as well as enhancing their beauty.
