Is there a way to use your air cooler efficiently in summer? Well, YES! Indeed, you can maximise the efficiency of your room cooler provided that you handle it with care and follow what’s mentioned in our guide. However, before we begin explaining the steps, here’s a small hypothetical scenario that helped us come up with the idea for this blog.
Imagine a long day outside in the scorching sun with a never-ending list of things to do. Now imagine taking care of everything and coming home after a cruel hot day. You take a seat on your comfortable couch and turn on the air cooler. As soon as the room cooler starts working, a cool breeze hits your sweaty face.
In such a scenario, a fresh breeze of air is all you need to make you forget all about the harshness of a scorching summer day. While the cooling of a swamp cooler is usually limited, we want you to make the most of it by using your air cooler efficiently in summer.
Without further ado, let’s get cooling!
Essential Tips to Use Your Air cooler Efficiently This Summer
It is no secret that the summer season in some parts of Pakistan, especially the southern region, is quite cruel and nearly unbearable. Besides the thought of gulping down ice cream and enjoying iced lassi, the only things that keep us going are our dear air coolers or air-conditioners. Needless to say, we all want to maximise the wonder of these cooling boxes, and we want to make the most of them.
That said, here is our set of five tips that you can use to maximise the efficiency of your room cooler this summer:
- Proper Ventilation
- Placement of Air cooler
- Timely Cleaning
- Replacing Ice
- Handle With Care
Proper Ventilation
This one’s self-explanatory, and it goes without saying that a smooth airflow is quintessential for maintaining a cool temperature in your room. In order to maximise the cooling of your air cooler, the first step you need to take is to create exposure for air and push humidity out.
The easiest way to ventilate your room is to part curtain, pull up the window-blinds, and open all the windows. Just be extra careful that the temperature outside isn’t dry, or the windows aren’t bringing any sunlight inside the house. Also, remember not to open the windows too wide since it will only result in increasing the room’s temperature.
Placement of Air cooler
Air coolers are greatly affected by the placement. If you place it in the corner of your room without any windows, you will not be able to get a cool breeze out of it. As such, the best location for the air cooler in a room is either beside or right in front of windows or ventilators.
Furthermore, regardless of how much the air outside of your room is hotter than the room interior, the evaporation will take place faster. With faster evaporation, the air blown out by your air cooler’s fan will be cooler.
Timely Cleaning
If your room cooler hasn’t been used for a long time, then it is more likely to become a host for dust. We know for a fact that the changing weather brings in dry and dusty air, which accumulates in things we have not been using during winters.
So, just like any other home appliance at your place, an air cooler also runs efficiently when it’s well-maintained and cleaned timely. Before the summer season begins, make sure to inspect and clean it thoroughly. During the season, make sure you are following the below-mentioned protocols:
- Vacuum or clean air intake grills and fans with a dry cloth.
- Wipe the exterior body of your air cooler with a damp cloth so that dust doesn’t accumulate.
- Sponge water tanks with a water and soap solution.
- Examine cooling pads every week for mildew.
- Replace cooling pads if you notice a crack or fungus.
As soon as the winter begins and you feel the need to pack away your room cooler, just make sure that you have thoroughly cleaned it by completely draining all water from the system. Don’t pack it away until it’s completely dry, including the cooling pads as well.
Replacing Ice and Water
Most air coolers in Pakistan have a detachable back, removable by unscrewing a set of screws. This function enables you to add water and ice in the air cooler. All you need to do is to make sure that you are putting clean, cool, and freshwater or ice inside it. Also, the amount of ice or water is not above or below the indicated level.
Moving forward, you also need to make sure that you are not putting ice-cubes or large chunks of ice directly in your room cooler. Use iced water instead. While adding iced water can make the pads cooler, too much ice or large chunks of ice can slow down the evaporation, which will hamper the efficiency of your air cooler.
Handle With Care
You can easily make your air cooler work efficiently if you handle it with utmost care. Your air cooler might look like a tough buddy, but it also needs to be handled gently to accompany you for a long time. Here’re are a few things you should consider:
- Avoid placing it on uneven surfaces
- Don’t move or shift it while it is still on
- Don’t play around with its fan or blades
Further, if you ignore one of these precautions and you might not be able to make the most of your air cooler, and you will probably have to spend some money on a new one or to get the old one repaired.

As such, the price of an air cooler in Pakistan is around PKR 15,000 to PKR 20,000, varying in size, capacity, and your ability to bargain.
Some companies also offer portable air coolers, and the price of rechargeable air coolers for closed rooms in Pakistan lies anywhere between PKR 14,000 to PKR 17,000. These air coolers are usually meant to be used by one person and have a lower capacity.
